Reducing reoffending benefits all of us. Less crime, means a safer society.
By drinking this beer, you are supporting coaching programmes in and after prison that encourage rehabilitation and reduce reoffending.
That's why we're supporting Spark Inside - who runs coaching programmes in prisons across London and the South East, to encourage rehabilitation and reduce reoffending.
They believe in change. They run two innovative coaching programmes that have been proven to have a positive impact on the lives of our participants. To date, have worked with 1,000 prisoners and prison officers.
In addition to delivering our coaching programmes, they advocate for prison policy change, and change in the way we understand our prisons.
Crime and Reoffending
The answer is never "more prisons". England and Wales currently has an imprisonment rate of 153 per 100,000 of the population, while France has a rate of 96 and Germany has a rate of 89 [source: Prison Reform Trust].
Prison has an incredibly poor record for reducing reoffending – 47% of adults are reconvicted within one year of being released. For petty offenders, serving sentences of less than 12 months, this increases to 60%. For children and young people in custody the rate of reoffending rises to 75%. Reoffending by ex-prisoners costs society at least £11bn per year [source: Prison Reform Trust].
So, we get this right, and we improve hundreds and thousands of lives - and have more money to spend where it's needed.
