We're a Pending B-Corp!
The Really Good Beer Society is ‘Pending B-Corp’
As you might have already gathered, we’re kind of on a mission to prove that businesses can be a force for good when it comes to reducing the impact on the planet and giving back. And in April 2021 we proudly became a part of the B-Corp family. Read a bit more below about what this means, and we plan to do as a business to go from pending to fully certified.
So, what is B-Corp certification and why does it matter so much to us?
B-Corps are businesses that meet the highest standards of social and environmental performance, transparency, and accountability to balance profit and purpose. It’s even written into our constitution as a company (so it’s definitely not a whim for us!).
Simply put – this means that each decision we make, considers:
- Our people
- Our customers
- Our planet
There are some amazing B-Corps out there leading the way – and we can’t wait to join them – such as Ben and Jerry’s, Patagonia, Innocent Drinks and Don’t Cry Wolf.
We’re not the first brewery to go on this journey – but there still aren’t many. We’d much rather see everyone start taking the planet seriously and using beer as a force for good.
So what’s the ‘Pending’ bit about?
You can’t become a B-Corp until you’ve had 12 months trading – and since we only launched in March 2021, we’re still too new! So, the Pending B-Corp is a designation specifically for start-up businesses who will spend the first 12 months operating in a way that when we’re assessed for the previous 12 months, we can be granted B-Corp status.
To become a B-Corp you have to evaluated not only on our products and services but also on who we are as a company. We will have to achieve a minimum score on the B Impact Assessment which looks at our impact on employees, customers, community and the environment.
Once fully certified, our assessment is also made available on the B-Corporation website for complete transparency which helps us show that Really Good, as our name implies, is a company that is Really Good, can be trusted and is committed to making the world a better place.
We’re looking forward to spending the next year, learning from our fellow B-Corp family about how we can use our profits to achieve a positive impact for employees, communities and the environment.
The specifics – what we are ‘actually’ doing:
It’s early days, and we’re still tiny but we’re in the process of:
- Measuring the impact through our whole supply chain from grain to glass
- Sustainable packaging – sourcing renewable or recycled materials as we grow
- Moving to carbon neutral servers to host our webshop and business
- Selecting the right delivery partners – exploring using electric or sustainable options like cycle couriers in London
We also are committed to:
- Always recycling or reusing whenever possible
- Always paying people for the work they do – no unpaid internships to anyone. Ever.
- Paying our suppliers on time, and trying to work with other B Corps, smaller businesses and sustainable businesses where we can
We’re always looking to improve, so if you have any brilliant ideas about how we could be better, please let us know via hello@reallygoodbeers.com
